This is an excellent book on French enlightenment philosophers, especially Diderot, Holbach, and to a lesser extent Rousseau. And, by the end of the book, the descriptions of their philosophies got old.
It certainly detracts from it as I would have given it four stars otherwise. Ok, off to find some socio-cultural intellectual histories of the concept of the European salon in philosophical thought from BCE to the current day.
